Amaxophobia in emergency
The street was amazingly quiet. As Dan was giving his first steps outside, a gust of wind dragged a bunch of leaves through the night, leading them to an unknown place and disturbing the seemingly peace. "The calm before the storm ?", thought Dan as he emerged through the front gate.
He knew that, after hearing that creeping sound earlier, walking outside the house was a big risk, even more after that deranged lunatic had sort of warned him against it. But Dan wasn't safe inside the house too, not after seeing that gory finding. The memory of the gory flesh, resting between the ice, almost made him puke again. No, he couldn't stay inside, with such an unstable madman, there he wouldn't feel safe; and he had to find her sister.
Thinking about last events, he could see that the engine worked between fifteen minutes breaks. After one of those gaps, the engine functioned for about fifteen minutes also, and the fans began to rotate in the process, spreading the parsley scent.
He waved his flashlight around to see if he could notice anything, but didn't find anything. Not even the cat. Two small stonemasons next to the house had some yellow flowers growing exuberantly. Dan would later find out that the flowers were growing out of season.
What mattered now was going somewhere where he could get help. He just wanted to disappear from that tomb, and head to safety. Now, seen by the outside, that house suddenly acquired a sinister, upsetting appearance; ... and so the entire street.
Dan gave a full circle watching everything. Why did he have that feeling that something, anything, could emerge from somewhere and pounce on him ? He wouldn't dare trying to go in the other houses. He lacked the courage.
First thing he had to go to downtown, maybe, find the police department, or the fire department, or something. He headed to the car, since Vincent had left the keys inside the drawer in the lobby's furniture - Dan had noticed that, and blessed his observation penchant, again.
But what would guarantee him that the rest of the population hadn't gone mad and would try to nail him ? He hadn't a choice though, so it was all or nothing. He sat in the driver's seat in the Beetle, and turned the key. The engine wouldn't start. Dan tried again, harder, and nothing. The car was stuck. The gas meter pointed that deposit was empty. Dan couldn't believe in his bad luck. How could Vincent manage to arrive there ? It was amazing that the car hadn't gave any trouble along the way.
After punching the panel of the car in frustration. He looked, and saw a motorcycle parked almost at the other side of the street. He had never ridden a two wheels vehicle before- he had quite a few troubles even with four wheels ones - but decided that now wasn't the time to get awkward. It could very well be his last escape.
